A Mission Built on Education

GLADE's mission is to strengthen dermatology knowledge globally by supporting clinicians who work in settings where access to specialist dermatology education may be limited.

The program is built on a simple but powerful idea: when clinicians receive stronger dermatology education, they are better equipped to recognise skin conditions, understand when specialist referral may be needed, and support safer clinical decision-making within their own licensed scope of practice.

Education is one of the most powerful tools in healthcare improvement. GLADE exists to make world-class dermatology teaching reach further than ever before.

The Global Dermatology Education Gap

Skin disease affects people everywhere, yet access to dermatology education and specialist knowledge is profoundly unequal. Dermatology is often underrepresented in medical training, even though skin conditions are among the most common reasons people seek medical attention.

In many parts of the world, clinicians are expected to assess skin conditions without sufficient access to specialist teaching. This can contribute to uncertainty, delayed recognition of warning signs, unnecessary referrals, or missed opportunities for timely specialist review.

GLADE was created to help close this gap — not by replacing healthcare systems, but by elevating the knowledge of the clinicians already serving their communities.

Three Flexible Educational Pathways

In-Person Masterclasses

Qualified dermatologists and educators travel to selected regions to deliver direct teaching, workshops, and case-based discussions for clinicians.

Virtual Sessions

Online lectures, case-based learning, and clinical reasoning discussions connect clinicians across continents without travel barriers.

Hybrid Programs

Online preparation combined with in-person interactive teaching — flexible models that adapt to local educational needs.

All GLADE activities are educational in nature. They are designed to support clinician knowledge and professional development; they are not a substitute for clinical care, patient consultation, or locally regulated medical services.

Curriculum Focus Areas

GLADE offers structured learning in the dermatology subjects that matter most for everyday clinical practice.

Skin cancer recognition — melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and other malignancies
Dermatopathology basics — foundational concepts in skin pathology
Inflammatory skin disease — eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune and connective tissue conditions
Infectious dermatology — bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic skin disease
Paediatric dermatology — recognising and managing skin conditions in children
Common diagnostic pitfalls — pattern recognition and mistake-avoidance
Referral decision-making — when to refer, when to manage within local scope
Patient education and communication — follow-up principles and clinical reasoning

Who GLADE Supports

GLADE supports clinicians and institutions worldwide:

  • Dermatology residents and fellows
  • General practitioners and family physicians
  • Junior doctors and trainees
  • Clinicians in underserved and under-resourced regions
  • Medical educators and academic faculty
  • Healthcare professionals involved in skin disease care
  • Hospitals, universities, and training institutions seeking dermatology education support
All participating clinicians remain responsible for working within their professional qualifications, licensing, institutional policies, and local laws.

A Foundation Built Over 15 Years

MARI is not a new organization. Since 2011, the Misdiagnosis Association Research Institute has built a global infrastructure for research, education, and advocacy in clinical medicine — with a particular focus on reducing diagnostic error and improving healthcare quality.
