What Is Mari Ref?

MARI Ref is an initiative within the MARI Network, developed under the leadership of Dr. Pooya Beigi, and is committed to providing accurate, accessible, and up-to-date medical knowledge.

We serve as a reference point for both professionals and the general public, equipping them with evidence-based information to support better diagnoses, safer care, and informed decision-making.

MARI Ref is built around three core goals:

  1. Decrease mismedicine
  2. Reduce medical misinformation
  3. Improve public health knowledge

We do this by offering a comprehensive medical reference library with:

  • Diagnostic guidelines
  • Disease explanations
  • Symptom comparisons
  • Patient expectations post-diagnosis
  • Tools for identifying potential misdiagnosis

Whether you’re a physician, nurse, academic, or patient, MARI Ref is here to assist you!

What Is Mismedicine?

MARI Ref plays a crucial role in addressing Mismedicine, a broad, inclusive term coined by Dr. Pooya  Beigi to describe any medical act that results in harm, inefficiency, or a failure to meet the standard of care.

By offering accurate, evidence-based diagnostic guidelines, symptom comparisons, and clear explanations of diseases, MARI Ref helps reduce the risk of delayed diagnoses, misinformation, and systemic gaps that lead to poor outcomes.

As part of the wider MARI Network, MARI Ref supports the mission to combat Mismedicine by promoting transparency, improving clinical accuracy, and empowering both patients and professionals to make safer, more informed healthcare decisions.
