Because Knowing Could Save a Life.
A branch of the Misdiagnosis Association and Research Institute (MARI)
What is MARI Education?
MARI Education is a non-profit initiative founded on a simple yet urgent truth: Most people don’t know how close they are to becoming a medical error statistic.
Our mission is to change that through advocating for awareness, equity, and action.
We empower individuals and families by providing them with free access to the knowledge needed to prevent errors in their care, from misdiagnoses to medication mix-ups and systemic blind spots.
We are a research initiative advocating for patient safety in our community and ensuring you:
- Ask the difficult questions
- Acknowledge the frequency and risk of medical errors
- Learn how medicine can go wrong and what to do when it does
What is Mismedicine?
Mismedicine is a term coined by Dr. Pooya Beigi to describe any medical action, whether it’s a diagnosis, treatment, communication, or system process, that fails to meet the standard of care and leads to harm, confusion, or inefficiency. It’s more than just misdiagnosis or malpractice. It’s when medicine, in any form, misses the mark.
This could be:
- A delayed or wrong diagnosis
- An unnecessary or harmful prescription
- Miscommunication between care teams
- Errors in medical records or digital charting
- Ethical oversights or systemic gaps in care
MARI Education invites the public to not only understand these errors, but to learn how to protect themselves against possible medical errors.
Mismedicine and MARI Education is not about placing blame on clinicians, it is about recognizing that errors often occur in complex systems such as healthcare. The goal is not to accuse, but to empower the public. By understanding how and why medical errors occur, we can encourage patients, families and even healthcare professionals to become active advocates in their own care.
When everyone is informed and engaged, healthcare becomes safer and more holistic for all.
What We Do?
MARI Education offers free, educational, accessible, and life-changing tools for anyone who wants to become an informed, empowered advocate for their own care or someone else’s.
